A curiously stunted story about an escaped tiger (perhaps someone's pet, as it has no claws) near LA, and the proposition to eradicate the neighborhood of feral cats in Wisconsin; add to that a vegetarian who finds some karmic justice in killing the snails that are eating her plants and you have this "slice of life" story from T.C. Boyle.
I've never read his work before, but must say that he read it well. It's always best, I think, to have the author read for an audiobook. They know exactly what emphasis needs to be placed where, when to slow things and when to add some speed.
It's an odd story... I'm not sure where it fits into the collection of other things I've read, but I must say that it piques my interest in this author. Perhaps I'll seek out more of his work... not sure yet.
This story struck me as if a chair had been pulled out from under me, while being handed a glass of wine... I felt like I'd missed the joke.
