This past Saturday, I had the distinct pleasure of participating in the "Once Upon A Book" author event in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This amazing event was organized by Stacy Rourke, and she did an exemplary job.
On Friday night, the event kicked off with a costume ball, which I didn't attend. However, many others did, and said they had a spectacular experience. From the photos and videos they all posted on Facebook, it looks like it was a blast! I didn't have enough time to create a costume, so I didn't go. But next year... I'm definitely doing it! It's not that often that a bunch of adults get to celebrate books by dressing up!
Saturday was the book festival and author signing event. Over 60 authors came together to share their work with the world, and the collection was quite impressive. Nearly every genre was represented, and the talent of these people was remarkable to see.
I was there with my four books, and also representing Grey Wolfe Publishing. We shared table spaces with five other Grey Wolfe authors, and all of us had a fun time meeting readers, writers and talking about our books.
Having the opportunity to walk through the day feeling like a celebrity is a pretty cool thing. I got to share my work with people who were genuinely interested, and meet some children who looked at my book with wide eyes. I just love inscribing books for readers. Experiencing that personal connection an author can attain with a reader brings us such tremendous joy.
This was my most successful event of the year... and for Grey Wolfe Publishing, as well! We are looking forward to next year... and yes - even though I haven't chosen a costume yet - I will most certainly be there to enjoy the fun!
