So, it's day ten, and we're one third of the way through the month of insane writing. I'm a bit behind on my NaNoWriMo novel this year... Yesterday, I was able to get 4,139 words written... not exactly my goal for the day, but when you consider that I did a bunch of research, too - not so bad.
I was happily reminded about just how helpful our local librarians can be yesterday. I was trying to remember the name of an orphanage in Farmington Hills that operated as a part of the Catholic Church's outreach program... I'm planning on setting a part of my book there, and I needed more information - but I couldn't remember the name!
I called my father, thinking that he would remember, considering he was older than me and has been living, working and traveling in this area longer than I have, and certainly, his memory would be better than mine... but after a few minutes of brainstorming, neither of us could remember.
I went to the library for our regular Wednesday night writing session and asked the a couple of the librarians. They are such smart people! They knew exactly where to go to find a picture of the place, and even located the website for me, which held a plethora of historical information! After about a half-hour of research, I was back to writing again with great gusto.
If you ever have a question you can't answer... remember to go to the library! It's amazing, the stuff they know!!
My writing goal for today is 2,008 words, to keep on schedule with NaNoWriMo. Considering that last night I was able to add 1,051 words in the short time - just 45 minutes of writing time - while I was at the library last night, and another 3,088 words yesterday during and just after my lunch hour, I don't think this will be a problem.
But in chair... fingers on keyboard!
Check back later today, after dinner, and I'll give you a word count update, and another snippet to read.
The Evening Update:
Well, unfortunately, I wasn't able to write as much as I wanted to today. I found myself lost in a mathematical conundrum within the timeline of my story, and spend about thirty minutes working on it. I'm not great at math. But, I was able to get 1,497 words written in just about an hour; and I'm happy with that. However, I didn't have time to build a new snippet for you to read. I'll work on that tomorrow morning.
So yes, I'm still behind on my word counts. But, I've created more clarity in my timelines... and I could probably write until midnight or later - but I'd like to snuggle with my husband before he becomes completely unconscious. The alarm clock goes off for him at 4am! So until the morrow... sleep well dear writing cohorts.
