I had the distinct pleasure of being a participating author at the inaugural Blue Water Author Event in Port Huron, Michigan yesterday.
There were fascinating authors from nearly every genre of the literary spectrum. All were especially kind and gracious people with a host of stories to tell. The room couldn't have been filled with more genuinely nice people if they tried.
Breigh and Brian Stout were exemplary organizers, making the day truly enjoyable. The level of organization they brought to this event was top-notch, and they provided such great support for the authors that the event was wonderfully stress-free for everyone in the room.
Readers were greeted warmly and encouraged to engage with authors with wide aisles and well-spaced tables, giving everyone a lot of room to mingle and chat without that claustrophobic feeling that often accompanies conventions of this type. There was plenty of room to spread out and give readers a chance to investigate their new favorite books without standing shoulder-to-elbow with other readers. The noise level in the room was well-managed, giving authors and readers an opportunity to hold conversations without screaming over background music or other distractions. Truly, it was a remarkably pleasant experience.
I'm looking forward to attending again next year!
